One of my favorite things about owning a company in the 21st century is that we can do just about anything from a computer. There are no rules anymore about where your company has to operate, which means that hiring employees is no longer constrained by geography. Remote talent is the reason Priority VA can exist as a company, by connecting entrepreneurs with virtual assistants.

While studies show that virtual employees can actually be more productive than those stuck in an office, we as leaders cannot neglect the extra work required to motivate the distributed team.

In this episode, you’ll hear ways to motivate and encourage your distributed team to perform their best. Within my own company, I’ve discovered that motivation generally comes from three categories.

 

  • Workplace culture - There are obvious challenges to creating culture when the majority of your team is distributed. But I’m sharing some best practices that we’ve found particularly helpful.
  • Support and lifelines - No matter how independent your remote workers may say they are, everyone needs human contact. Learn how you can combat “lonely island syndrome”.
  • Feedback and expectations - How do you create regular feedback loops and determine expectations? I’ll share some interesting stats on the subject and share insight into how we do this in my company.
